I can’t begin to tell you how insane the past week has been. I mean. Insane with a capital Insane level of insane. All of it good, though. Which is a pleasant change of pace.
I’ll talk about only one element right now, and that is that as a result of a well-supported Book Bub promotion STARFLIGHT, which, of course, happens to be the first book in the series that I’m trying so desperately to finish up STARDUST, Book 8 in now, managed to make it to the upper ranges of the bestseller lists on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble—and maybe Kobo, but I couldn’t really tell. For a couple days it was the #1 selling hard science fiction book on Amazon’s charts, which is pretty cool and gives me good hopes for this book I’m working on now.
That caught me by surprise, and took me a bit of work to prepare for–which I guess is the theme of this RelaxaDare.
Lisa and I also got out of the house last week for the first time in, like, pandemic forever. We took a late afternoon and evening to go see a concert at the Rialto in downtown Tucson, which was great fun.
There’s more, too—much more. But I don’t want to spend a lot of time discussing that right now, so instead I’ll commit the offense of some serious vaguebooking, and just leave it at that for now.
Regardless, I’ve been plugging along with the book, and was hoping I’d finish it today. So close. So very close. But at present I have one more scene to really get right, but after a full day of working, my brain is not really interested in making it happen. So, while it’s technically possible that ’’ll come back to it tonight, I’m figuring that the final tape will get crossed tomorrow morning.
It’s all good, though. I figured that the book would end up at about 50K total, and it’s 51.9K. So it’ll end at something more like 53K, I’d guess. Not bad. And the good news is that I think I like it quite a bit, too. It’s got the same flavor as the series, but at the same time takes a boot of a different turn. To say more would give away too much, so I won’t. All I can say for sure is that it’s always a good thing to enjoy the thing you’re working on—and to date that’s what this process has been.
Total Book: 51,900 words
