Forgive me for being on pins and needles this morning. I’ve just hit “Launch” on my latest project, a nonfiction work titled On Creating (And Celebrating!) Characters, and my mind is a bit of a mess, thank you very much. But, yes, there it is, my newest little baby flying out in the open for all to see!
So I’m nervous.
Will people like it?
Yes, I know I’ve run a few of these now. I should be used to it, right?
No. That’s wrong.
It’s quite normal to be like this. Everything is out of my hands now. Or, actually, most things. All that’s left for me is to dwell on the joy of having created something fun, and–dare I say–celebrate the fact that the book exists.
So that’s what I’m doing here.
I can say without doubt that I had a lot of fun examining the various characters I dig into with this book, and that this in itself was a pretty fair compensation. I loved spending time with characters like Sarah Connor, and Lieutenant Dan. I got really excited thinking about Tyrion Lannister, and about how Jack Pearson and Gandalf the Grey are presented to the world have certain similarities. I spent time in the shoes of Elric (a boyhood joy), and the Clone Club from Orphan Black. I looked at buddies and sidekicks and whatnot. Crash Davis. Rachel Green. Batman, and Katniss Everdeen.
So, yeah. It was great fun.
I hope you enjoy it.
