Never Read Your Reviews – And If you Do, Here’s How to Do It.

My lovely wife sent me this link in email earlier today. It’s a bit from the Mammoth Cave National Park’s Facebook page, made after receiving a less-than-glowing review at some point.  Go read it. It’s brilliant. Follow the comments, of course.

Now, I suppose you have to understand that I say this as someone who has been there several times and loved it each time. My parents took me and my brother as kids. My wife and I went there as newlyweds. We took our daughter there when she was old enough to appreciate it. As this photo proves, my family has been apparently “suffering through” trips to Mammoth Cave for at least a few generations. I believe the photo is from the mid-1940s, as marked by all the military uniforms.

The roots run deep.

My own review would, like many of the commenters on the thread, be considerably different from the poor review that the unfortunate guy who started this off left. But, you know, that’s okay.

It’s a good idea, I think, when we read our own reviews (because, let’s face it, who doesn’t?) to remember that beauty and joy is in the eye of the beholder, and that you’re just not going to please everyone everywhere. And that, if Mammoth Cave can get panned, well, that puts us in pretty good company.
